A Bit of Background
Zarafa Pictures is a SAFTA awarding winning boutique production company. Our vision is to make world-class films that bring South African stories to an international stage. Our goal is to redeem the black and feminine identity through cinematic African storytelling. We hope to also invite a global audience into the world of South African stories.
Our prior production, Lakutshon’ Ilanga (When The Sun Sets), written and directed by our founder, Phumi Morare achieved international acclaim with a NAACP Image Award, a Student Academy Award, a Student BAFTA nomination, and a shortlisting for the 2022 Academy Awards. It is now streaming on HBO in the United States, and ShowMax in South Africa.
